Last year was the first year that I really started paying attention to the stock market. While I’ve had a portfolio for several years, I was unsuccessfully following the old “Buy and Hold” mantra. I decided that 2006 was going to be the year I learned more about how the system actually worked and I…

Greg Connors has a piece in today’s Buffalo News about making money from blogging, which quotes yours truly: Derek Punaro blogs with his wife, Amanda, at Punaro.com. He says there are not interested in selling ad space. “A lot of people incorporate ads into their site to defray their costs and bring in some income,…
Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, recently commissioned a survey of American economists to find out their opinions on the presidential candidates. Interestingly, most economists are Democrats, and feel their party is the one with the right economic ideas. When asked which candidate for President would be best for the economy in the long run, not…
In case you were getting depressed by statistics about Buffalo, like population loss, tax rates, and politician approval ratings, here’s one to rejoice: Buffalo now has it’s first Fortune 500 company. Former CTRC President, Russell Pawlak, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Russell was a tireless supporter of the Terminal, taking it from the pipe dream of a bunch of preservationists, to a successful event venue, bringing thousands of people per year back to the East Side of Buffalo. Hi! I write you for different reasons. The first one to tell you I enjoyed your pics from Belgium. I went there last year and I think it’s an awesome place. The other reason is because we share the same lastname, this is: Punaro. I am mexican, and back there all the people that share this lastname are the descendents of the late Mr. José Asuncion Punaro (this is my grandfather from my mother’s side). The funny thing is that we don’t know the origen of the Punaro name. So, each time I have a chance, I seach to see if by any chance I find a clue. Some time ago I was told it is from northen Italy. Do you have an idea? Thank and hope you don’t bother for using this space that I imagine it’s reserved for your family and close friends.
The name does originate in Italy. Somewhere, I have some images of Ellis Island records of my ancestors coming over to the U.S. I’ll post them when I have a chance. I do not know where the Mexican branch would have started!
