Gain one, lose one

The universe has a tendency to balance itself out, and this time, unfortunately, the announcement of Dot was countered with the departing of Grandpa Punaro. I grew up living next door to my grandparents, so seeing them was a regular occurrence. While age took it’s toll on his body, his mind was always sharp and he’d always recant stories about growing up in the South, or his getting a job as a tenor at Radio City Music Hall, only to turn it down, not liking the prospect of having to live in New York City.

Grandpa celebrated his 90th birthday last year, and while we would have loved it if he stuck around to meet his great-grandchild, it just wasn’t to be. We’ll miss you Grandpa.

  1. Sorry to hear about your Grampa; my sympathy goes out to you and your family. Still, 90 years is a pretty good run, particularly if you’ve got your wits about you until pretty near the end. I say that only because its true; and you probably know that already, but hopefully it helps.

He sounds like he was a pretty interesting guy.

  2. I’m terribly sorry to hear about Grandpa Punaro. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Punaro family in this time of mourning. God Bless and may Grandpa Punaro rest in peace and my his memory live on.

  3. I never had the chance to know either of my blood Grandfathers, so this was difficult for me, even though I am only an “In-Law”. It is a shame that I did not have as much time as the Punaro kids did to get to know Grandpa and hear his wonderful stories enough to be able to remember them all. I will miss him too.
