How long before Spitzer weighs in on big oil?

With California Attorney General Bill Lockyer being the first to launch an investigation into oil company “profiteering”, I’m sure the antithesis of big business, Eliot Spitzer, is chomping at the bit to get in on the action and play to the hearts of the liberal voters.

I hope he does. I hope he breaks down the cost of a gallon of gas and tells the everybody exactly how much the oil companies make per gallon, and how much the government collects per gallon. Stop flouting the “big numbers” like total profit a company makes, and show us the fundamentals.

Then explain to us why the government feels they should profit more off a product than the companies that produce it.

  2. Amen to that. I heard clips of Neil Cavuto arguing with a Congressman. Neil could not get the guy to focus on anything other than the obscene profits of the oil companies and the $400 million bonus of the Exxon exec. Neil was really trying to harp on the fact that big oil take about 9 cents per gallon whilg big gov. co. takes about 18 cents! He called it “tax gouging”…

  3. But Derek, he only has one rule when deciding to take a case and walk into the buzzsaw of powerful interests without backing down. Is it right? Not is it big or small, popular or not, but is it right.
