  2. It’s indeed a great building. Hopefully, the housing renewal plans cited in today’s ArtVoice can gain traction…it will lead to retail development.

    Housing first, retail second. Downtown is finally learning this lesson. Hopefully, the news will continue to be positive for the East Side. There is certainly a lot of intelligent and dedicated people working towards renewal.

  3. Michele has been working with the housing issues there for 3 years. She has accomplished many great things, including getting the city to bargain with prospective buyers. But, yes, the momentum in housing is headed in the right direction.

    For some buildings, not necessarily Eckhardt, we don’t have the luxury of time to wait for the area to repopulate. Eckhardt has the luxury of a responsible owner, but even then, the maintenance costs become very burdensome when the vacancy lingers on like it has been. That’s why we started there. Plus, it’s the signature building in Broadway Fillmore.
