Yeah, it snowed
ByDerekThe amount of snow that’s fallen is pretty crazy. It’s the light, fluffy, kind where you can see distinct snowflakes, and when you walk on it, you sink to your knees. Thought I’d take the camera out for awhile yesterday and see what I could capture.

Around the neighborhood
ByDerekDecided to take a walk up the road tonight with my camera, knowing there were some huge hay bales that looked like they might be an interesting subject. Turns out, Ariella was the more interesting subject, but the hay bales made a nice backdrop. This one took a bit of photoshopping, as I really didn’t…

On the Surface
ByDerekRevolutionary technology comes around only once in a great while. I’m not sure I would quite classify Microsoft Surface as revolutionary, but at a minimum it’s the biggest leap forward in computer-human interface design in a long time. As I sit here massaging my sore wrist, my mind says that anything that gets us a…

Ariella gets her mouth on the ice cream cake
ByDerekA grandma who will remain unnamed let Ariella get her little fingers in our ice cream cake the other night at Amanda and my combined birthday celebration. A big thank you to everyone for your generous gifts!

for something like this, to replicate the feel I think you want, you probably want to feather edges of your faux-vignette a little more and add a layer or two of grain to give it more of a realistic, film-y feel. Very cool shot, though.
it’s a very nice shot, i like it a lot, but the corner darking could be less dark. i’m sure your camera didn’t do it THAT dark (and if it did, maybe something is wrong haha).
Yeah, the vignette is completely Photoshopped and I couldn’t get it to come out quite the way I wanted it to. I also went back to the RAW shot and tweaked it a little bit to make it a bit more dynamic. Going to take it back into PS and work it a bit more.
