Derek’s Photography
Last updated: July 22, 2008 at 11:51 am by DerekBackground
As far as I can tell, my interest in photography stems from two things. First, there were some incidents when I was younger where my mother told me I took some horrible photos on some vacation or family outing. I took that as a personal challenge to get better. Second, while I definitely have an artistic side, previously my talents were stuck largely in the musical realm. From a visual standpoint, well, I can’t draw, paint, or sculpt, so what else was left?
I started with digital photography fairly early on with an Epson PhotoPC 550. It had a whopping 640×480 resolution with no flash and no LCD screen. However, it allowed me to take a massive amount of photos with no developing cost, so that was how I started. My second camera was a 4 megapixel Canon S40 point and shoot. This camera, which I still have, served me for many years until I finally had it mastered and just couldn’t get it to do what I wanted it to.
In February 2007, I upgraded to digital SLR. This setup is highly expandable and will serve me for years to come. It is a constant learning experience, especially for someone like myself who has no formal training. However, I love hobbies that I can enjoy no matter if I’m on vacation, a business trip, or just hanging around and home. I hope you enjoy my work.
